At the far end of the platform in
Hua Lamphong Station I spotted the former JNR/JR Hokkaido KiHa 183 series DMU. The Japanese diesel train was originally used for the limited express services in Hokkaido, such as Okhotsk and Oozora, and was donated to the State Railway of Thailand after its retirement. They gave it a modification from the 1,067 mm Japanese gauge to the 1,000 mm Thai gauge and now use it as a tourist train. The color scheme and the details such as the model numbers from the JR days were intentionally kept as they were, and the rollsigns have the Japanese characters to give it the feel of "a Japanese train you can ride in Thailand".
フアランポーン駅にあるプラットフォームの先端に、旧日本国鉄／JRのキハ183系気動車がいるのを発見。この日本製ディーゼルカーはもともと「オホーツク」や「おおぞら」といった北海道内の特急列車に利用で使われ、引退したあとにタイ国鉄へ無償譲渡された。タイに来てからは日本の1,067ミリゲージをタイの1,000ミリゲージにする改修を受け、観光列車として走っている。車両の塗装、そして型式番号などの細部は意図的に日本でのものが残されており、方向幕やヘッドマークには日本語が入っていて、「タイで乗れる日本の列車」の風味をかもし出していた。
