HUA LAMPHONG RAILWAY STATION: ENGINES

I was delighted knowing that Hua Lamphong Station partially serves as a railway museum of Thailand. Some historic locomotives are preserved right next to the active tracks inside the terminal.

嬉しいことに、フアランポーン駅の一角はタイの鉄道博物館になっていた。歴史を感じさせる機関車たちが、稼働中の線路の真横で保存されている。

The number 54. Built in 1909 by Henschel & Son of Germany.

54号機。1909年、ドイツのヘンシェル社製。

The number 336 was built in 1913 by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works, a.k.a. SLM.

336号機はSLMとして知られるスイス・ロコモティブ・アンド・マシン・ワークスが1913年に作った機関車。

This is the Davenport 500 HP electro-diesel locomotive built by Davenport Locomotive Works, an American builder based in Iowa that was shut down in the 1950s. It is said that the State Railway of Thailand had used this model until quite recently. They might still be using it.

こちらは、1950年代に閉鎖されたアメリカ・アイオワ州のメーカー、ダベンポート・ロコモティブ・ワークスが製造したダベンポート 500 HP電気式ディーゼル機関車。タイ国有鉄道はこの機関車をかなり最近まで使っていたことが知られている。もしかしたら、まだ使っているのかもしれない。

A beautiful 278 steam loco, built by Hanomag of Germany in 1929, side by side with an Alstom AD24C diesel loco, a workhorse of the current SRT. It is wonderful to see that there is no wall between the displayed rolling stocks and the active tracks used for daily operations, and the past and present of Thai railways are blended under one big roof.

1929年にドイツのハノマーグ社が作った美しい278号蒸気機関車の隣にいるのは、現在のタイ国鉄の働き者、アルストムAD24Cディーゼル機関車。保存展示されている車両と毎日列車が運行されている線路の間に壁がなく、タイの鉄道の昔と今が大きな屋根の下で混じり合っているのが素晴らしい。
