PRE-SOCIALIST ERA ARCHITECTURE IN BELGRADE

Socialist architecture is not the only eye-pleaser in Belgrade's cityscape. Here are some beauties from the pre-Socialist era. This building, with an iconic portico, is the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, completed in 1940. It sits next to the Metropol Palace Hotel. 

ベオグラードの街並みの中で目を楽しませてくれるのは社会主義建築だけではない。ここでは社会主義時代以前の名作を集めてみた。まずはアイコニックなポルチコを持ったベオ大法学部。1940年に完成したこの建物は、メトロポールパレスホテルの隣にある。

Stari dvor, which means the Old Place, was the residence of the Serbian royal family from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. It is currently used as the Belgrade City Hall.

オールドパレスという意味のスタリドヴォル。19世紀末から20世紀初頭にかけて、セルビアのロイヤルファミリーの邸宅だった。今は市役所として使われている。

The House of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, built in 1936 when Serbia was the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

セルビア共和国の国会議事堂。完成したのはセルビアがユーゴスラビア王国だった1936年。

General Post Office with a majestic facade built in the 30s. Obviously postal affairs had power and importance back then.

圧巻のファサードを持つ中央郵便局は1930年代もの。当時、郵政に力と重要性があったことは明らか。

On the opposite side of the street from the General Post Office you will find another magnificent building, the Czech Embassy, originally built in 1926 as the Czechoslovak Embassy.

道をはさんで中央郵便局の向かいに建っているのはチェコ大使館。こちらも壮麗。チェコスロバキア大使館として1926年に完成した。
