Isen, a local ryokan operator based in Yuzawa Town, has done a pretty good job modernizing Ryugon while maintaining its traditional aesthetic. Like Galleria Midobaru in Beppu, it seems that a local hospitality company with deep knowledge and rich experience in the region can make a fabulous hotel.
