A TRAIN DAY IN THE CHUETSU REGION: JR EAST IIYAMA LINE

Changing trains to the JR Iiyama Line at Tokamachi Station. The train on the left is the OYKOT rapid service for tourists, and the one on the right is a local train I will take to Echigo Kawaguchi. They are the DMU, not the EMU.

十日町駅でJR飯山線に乗り換える。左は観光快速列車「おいこっと」。右はこれから越後川口まで乗る普通列車。ここからは電車ではなく気動車。

The diesel runs through the heartland of Niigata. This area has heavy snowfall in winter, but now it shows a completely different face.

ディーゼルは新潟のハートランドを走る。冬は豪雪となる地域だが、今はまったく違う表情を見せている。
