TRAINS AROUND THE GREATER NAGOYA AREA: JR CENTRAL AND ISE RAILWAY RAPID SERVICE MIE

Next, I'm taking a diesel train instead of an EMU. It is the rapid service named after the prefecture next to Nagoya. This Mie service is operated by JR Central's KiHa 75 DMU and uses a non-JR route, the Ise Line of the Ise Railway, only between Tsu and Yokkaichi. The Ise Line once was the JNR Ise Line and it still partially has a magnificent unelectrified double track that looks like an archeological site from the Showa era. 

次は電車ではなく気動車。名古屋の隣にある県の名前をつけた快速列車に乗ってみた。JR東海のキハ75形気動車を使った快速「みえ」は、津と四日市の間だけJR線ではなく伊勢鉄道伊勢線を走っていく。伊勢鉄道の一部区間が見事なまでに堂々とした非電化の複線になっていたが、これはかつてこの路線が国鉄伊勢線だった時代の名残りらしい。まるで昭和の遺跡の上を通過しているような感じがする。
