It is said that the hotelier Sarkies Brothers first opened the Eastern Hotel in 1884. Within a year of inauguration, the hotel became so popular that they added another hotel, the Oriental Hotel, on the adjacent land the following year. They later combined these two brands under the name Eastern & Oriental.
This hotel is less busy and touristy than the
Raffles and has a more relaxed feel - except in the evenings and afternoons when they have a big party in a ballroom downstairs.

ラッフルズほど観光客だらけではなく、階下のボールルームでデカいパーティをやっている夜や午後以外は全体的にのんびりしている。
