KYOTO'S BRUTALIST

Checking out the Kyoto International Conference Center, one of Japan's Brutalist masterpieces, designed by Sachio Otani and completed in 1966. Its trapezoidal structure is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese house. I could take pictures of the inside from the entrance, but they never allowed me to enter the building. It's a national facility without any confidentiality and an architectural landmark that can attract modernism maniacs from all over the world, so why don't they open this place to the public?

日本におけるブルータリスト建築の傑作の一つ、国立京都国際会館を見に行った。完成は1966年。手がけたのは大谷幸夫。台形の構造体が日本の伝統的な家屋を思い起こさせる。入り口から建物の内側の写真を撮ることができたが、中は立入禁止とのことで入れてもらえなかった。なんの秘密もない国立の施設であり、世界中のモダニズムマニアたちを魅了するランドマーク的建築なのだから、誰もがいつでも入れるようにするべき。
