1928 BUILDING

Mosaic floor tiles. The parapet of the staircase. Wooden doors. Star-shaped skylight windows. All the details are lovely. This art-deco building near Shinkyogoku Shopping Mall was originally the Kyoto office of The Osaka Mainichi Newspaper (later known as The Mainichi Newspaper). As the facade and the name say, it was built in 1928.

床に敷かれたモザイクの豆タイル。階段の手すり壁。木製のドア。星形の明かり取り窓。すべてのディテールが素晴らしい。新京極商店街の近くにあるこのアールデコのビルヂングはもともと、のちに毎日新聞社となる大阪毎日新聞社の京都支局として作られた。ファサードに書いてあるとおり、そして名前が示しているとおり、落成は1928年。
