ALONG THE HAKODATE MAIN LINE: SMALL RAIL STATIONS

Hirafu. Rankoshi. And Kombu. I visited rustic but charming rail stations on JR Hokkaido's Hakodate Main Line a.k.a. the Mountain Line. This route was once a part of main rail network in Hokkaido, but only a few trains a day stop at these stations nowadays. Standing on the platform, I tried to imagine the time when the mighty Class C62 steam locomotive was running on these tracks.

比羅夫。蘭越。そして昆布。JR北海道の函館本線、通称「山線」にある、鄙びてはいるがチャーミングな駅に立ち寄る。「山線」はかつて北海道における主要鉄道ネットワークの一部だったが、今では1日にほんの数本の列車が停まるだけ。ホームに立って、勇壮なC62形蒸気機関車がこの線路の上を走っていた時代を想像してみた。
