Comuna 13 is a symbol of Medellín's urban transformation. The community used to be one of the most dangerous and roughest areas in the city as it was the center for gang and drug trafficking activities. In 2011, the government installed sets of outdoor escalators to improve access for the residents, and then things began to change. Now the area is known for colorful murals by local artists and street performances and has become the main tourist destination in Medellín. You can find a variety of cafes and souvenir shops, too.
コミュナ13はメデジンの都市再生のシンボル。このコミュニティはかつてギャングの活動や麻薬取引の中心地で、街で最も治安が悪い危険な場所の一つだった。しかし2011年に政府が住民の足として複数の屋外エスカレーターを設置すると、地域に変化が起き始める。今では、地元のアーティストが描いたカラフルなミューラルやストリートパフォーマンスで知られる、メデジンの観光名所になった。カフェや土産物屋もたくさん建ち並んでいる。
