Long before Soviet came here, Belarus was a part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Then it was acquired by the Russian Empire. They say the Belarusian nobility of that time brought dishes from Italian, German, and French cuisines. The complicated history and a mixture of food cultures eventually created amazingly tasteful dishes such as lazanki—a Belarusian type of pasta. Some online article says "if you're looking for a truly insanely delicious meal, Belarus will not disappoint." I totally agree.
