YEREVAN RAILWAY STATION

They say the Armenia train system is not working well, but the building of Yerevan Central Station is fabulous. It was constructed in the Khrushchev era and has a pure Soviet style with a communist star shining high up in the air. This neoclassical building reminds me of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre which was built in the same period. The minimalistic platform is also a killer for a person like me who has a fetish for socialist architecture.
アルメニアの鉄道はあまり機能していないようだが、エレバン中央駅の駅舎は素晴らしい。共産主義の星を空高く掲げた純ソビエト様式で、フルシチョフ時代に建てられたもの。このネオクラシカルな建物は、同時代に作られた上海展覧センターにも似ている。僕のような社会主義建築フェチにとっては、ミニマリスティックなプラットフォームもたまらない。
