It's like a summer day. I drove north from the foot of Mount Aso, which is currently erupting, and arrived at Shirakawa Onsen (White River Hot Springs) adjacent to Kurokawa Onsen (Black River Hot Springs). Then checked into Sansou Takefue, a bamboo-themed hot spring inn. This inn is located deep in the mountains and has a feel of a hidden village which appears in Japanese old folktales. Chilled ramunes (Japanese traditional bottled soda beverage) are on the house.
夏のような日。噴火が続く阿蘇山の麓から北へ向かい、黒川温泉の隣にある白川温泉に到着。そして、竹をテーマにした温泉旅館「山荘竹ふえ」にチェックイン。山深い場所に作られたこの宿には、日本の民話に出てくる隠れ里の趣がある。よく冷えたラムネは宿のおごり。
