GRANVILLE ISLAND

This island (actually, it's a peninsula) adjacent to downtown Vancouver was once an industrial manufacturing area but has now become a creative hotspot. It's fun, vibrant, and doesn't have cookie-cutter retail stores. Urban development in Japan which keeps producing copycats of Roppongi Hills and mass-marketed mega shopping malls needs to learn from this place.
バンクーバーのダウンタウンに隣接したこの島（実際には半島）はかつて工業エリアだったが、今ではクリエイティブなホットスポットになっている。楽しくて、活気があって、どこでも見かけるような店舗はない。六本木ヒルズのコピーや、マスマーケット型の巨大ショッピングモールを作り続ける日本の市街地再開発はこの場所から学ぶべき。
