A NORTHBOUND NIGHT TRAIN

Leaving for Ishionomaki. Tonight I take the Yamabiko bullet train to Sendai where I make an overnight stopover. Like last time, I get the whole car to myself all the way to the destination. The total tranquility in the car is quite appropriate for the night train traveling to the northern land at midwinter.
石巻へ出発。今夜は新幹線やまびこで仙台へ行き、そこで一泊する。前回同様、終着駅の仙台までずっと、一車両まるごと貸し切り状態だった。完璧なまでに静かな車内は、真冬の北の地へ走る夜の列車にふさわしい。
