THE NINES

I chose The Nines as my base in Portland. This Starwood hotel is located in the iconic Meier & Frank Building which was built in 1909 and once served as the flagship store and headquarters for Meier & Frank, an Oregon-based department store. Under the magnificent "beat-the-Hyatt" atrium, they still have a store of Macy's who acquired the Meier & Frank company. I was expecting more northwestern feel inside, but their room decor is something typical among recent "hip, contemporary" hotels.
ポートランドでの基地にはザ・ナインズを選んだ。このスターウッド系ホテルが入っているのは1909年に建てられた街のシンボル「マイヤー＆フランクビル」で、かつてはオレゴン生まれのデパート「マイヤー＆フランク」の本店兼本社だった建物。ハイアットに対抗するかのような壮麗なアトリウムの階下では、マイヤー＆フランク社を買収したメイシーズのデパートが今も営業を続けている。部屋のインテリアは最近の「ヒップでコンテンポラリー」なホテルによくありがちなスタイル。もうちょっとノースウエストっぽい雰囲気を期待していたのだが。
