CORINTHIA HOTEL LONDON

Checked in at this about-one-year-old Corinthia, one of the newest five star hotels in London. Originally built as the Metropole Hotel in 19th century, this building had become the Ministry of Defence before WWII and later was used as a home for Defence Intelligence Staff. Last year, Malta-based Corinthia Hotels International made this site reincarnate as a hotel. It's modern, but not too designy. It's authentic, but not too traditional. I like their a-stone's-throw-of-Trafalgar location, spacious layout of guest room entrance and bathroom, and, above all, very friendly doormen.

できておよそ1年の、ロンドンで最も新しいファイブスターの一つであるコリンシアにチェックイン。そもそもこの建物は19世紀にメトロポールホテルとして建てられ、第二次大戦前には国防省になり、その後は国防情報参謀部のオフィスにもなったという。昨年、マルタを本拠地にするコリンシアホテルズインターナショナルが再びホテルとして生まれ変わらせた。モダンだが、「デザインデザイン」しすぎていない。オーセンティックだが、伝統を主張しすぎてはいない。目と鼻の先にトラファルガーがあるロケーション、広々とした客室エントランスとバスルームのレイアウト、そして何より、ものすごくフレンドリーなドアマンの皆さんが素晴らしい。
